DRL Refineries LLC

ESG Initiatives

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)

The Facility construction phase will create jobs for 600 persons over 18 mos, and the operations phase will create jobs for 120 fulltime employees.

We expect these jobs to be filled with a diverse and inclusive work force, putting safety of the employees first. Our employment initiatives will include providing training and skills to the personnel, so they will be better positioned to apply their skills and learning going forward as they provide for themselves and their families.

Prioritizing Safety & Workforce

Flaring

There will be NO continuous flaring at the refinery – with use of a High Integrity Protection System (HIPPS) to avoid over pressure gas releases to the flare.

SOX/NOX

The DRL refineries will include a range of high-fidelity static mixers for use in the refinery fuel gas treatment systems of thermal power stations, cement works, refineries, steam reformers, and steelworks, among others. These mixers are crucial to the effectiveness of the flue gas treatment process, providing homogenization of gas temperature or concentrations, admixing of small amounts of additives, and distribution of dust or ash. The Sulzer Contour Mixer leads the industry in terms of its efficient mixing performance and low pressure drop, while the classical Sulzer SMV mixer is still regarded as the standard solution by many customers.

MaxFlux® Technology

MaxFlux® Hydrotreating Technology is a low carbon intensity process in which hydrogen is fully dissolved into the hydrocarbon liquid and the reactor is designed for a liquid-full, high-flux mode of operation. This design increases yield by minimizing over-cracking to undesirable by-products. By using a liquid recycle, utility consumption is reduced by up to 30%. Eliminating the gas recycle compressor reduces electricity requirements, and the hot liquid recycle preheats the feed, which reduces the duty on the charge heater. MaxFlux technology also has a more efficient use of hydrogen with higher availability and lower losses across the unit, reducing make-up hydrogen requirements due to losses by up to 10%. This reduction in makeup hydrogen reduces the CO2 rejection to the atmosphere from the SRR.

Waste Water Treatment & Storm Water Containment

The DRL refinery will include the latest Sulzer wastewater treatment technologies from FRC Technology, including oil-water separators (OWS), dissolved air flotation (DAF) systems, screens, sludge dewatering, biological treatment systems, Moving Bed Bio Reactor (MBBR), Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), and Continuous Waste Activated Sludge (CWAS). These technologies can help refineries improve the efficiency of their wastewater treatment processes while ensuring environmental compliance.

Benefits of Using FRC Suite of Technologies

High rate OWS have a small installation footprint and allow for the recovery of oil from wastewater stream.
DAF’s are equipped with proprietary whitewater generating system which requires only 1 SCFM of air, nitrogen, or other gas, leading to reduced utility costs and sludge disposal volumes.

Gas tight covers prevent the release of VOC’s to the atmosphere

Complete wastewater treatment system designs can allow for direct discharge and/or the reuse of effluent.

With a focus on delivering high-quality, reliable solutions, Sulzer Chemtech’s expert team is equipped to support clients in the refining industry, backed by the resources of a global organization.
